Canada. Who?
That is the reply each time.

But what about Canada?

He was once remembered, back when England and France fought over his country. Once he was forced to live with England, however, that is when he started to fade, overshadowed by his louder brother. Everyone remember's Alfred's fight for independence, but no body's Canada's. In fact, even being the second largest country does not help him be recognized at all.

Why don't people remember him? Why do they even both apologizing when they do?

They don't see him, sitting, invisible during the meetings, struggle to be heard over the din. They do not see him leave, a fake smile glued to his lips, as he waves to other countries as he leaves, driving home with the same smile. They do not see him go into his home, gently prodding his bear to sleep, placing him in a sound-proofed room. They do not see his smile vanish, grabbing the closest object to him and crushing it, his blood dripping down to the carpet below him. They do not hear his screams, nor see his tears, as he cries out to entities above him, asking why he was forced to live this hell. Why he is never recognized, not even by his own friends and family. They do not see hours later, watching his blood harden, turning the colour of his nations flag.

Why don't they remember him?
Why don't they try?

I think the reason Canada is forgotten is because of the stereotype between Canadians and Americans. The joke was that people couldn't tell the difference between Canadians and Americans, and that could also be why Canada and America look alike and are constantly mistaken for each other.
