America, Underestimated

America. A loud mouthed, obnoxious, ignorant twit. He can not read the atmosphere to save his life, and is too obsessed into being called the hero than listening to those around him. He always needs to be in the centre of attention, coming up with ridiculous suggestions that have little to no sense.
This is the person people think of when they hear his name.

But is he really that ignorant? Does he really have no sense of anything?

America has been in pain ever since his revolt from England. But he hides it, pretending to be alright, over the pain. But he is not. No, far from it. He did not have to help in WW2, but he did anyway. And for what? He is insulted by even his own 'allies', saying he only joined to be the 'hero' he so desperately claims he is. A child who wants to prove he can play with the adults. But they do not think that he came over because, even though they hadn't spoken in a hundred years, he knew him mentor needed his help. They did not see him patrol with his troops, helping shell-shocked citizens get to safety, claw survivors from the wreckage of what used to be their homes. They did not see him cry over children that where not even his own, lamenting the fact that they could not get a proper burial, left to rot in streets and gutters. They did not see him after his bosses bombed Japan, drinking himself under the table, crying out for his friend, begging forgiveness over and over again, screaming at himself why he did not stop the bombs. They did not see him look on with pity at Germany, knowing it was unfair the he be blamed for all of the war, an unnecessary war started by a human, but the nation receiving all of the blame.

Why can't they see that he is as grown as they are? Why don't they realize with each cruel word they utter, it brings down a man who is already so far down?

Why can't they see that?
